Crementif recently unveiled the latest version of the ‘BetterVR’ mod for Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), which now features full 6DOF support and motion controls for PC VR headsets. Excitingly, Crementif also hinted at a new VR mod for Mario Kart 8 (2014) currently in development.
BetterVR is a popular mod that converts the flat-screen version of BotW into a VR experience. The mod can be downloaded for free from the project’s GitHub page and has received 20 updates since its initial trailer release in December 2025.
Over the past eight months, Crementif has worked tirelessly to enhance the mod by implementing various improvements, fixes, and polish tweaks. These updates are showcased in the latest trailer for BetterVR.
Despite the progress made, Crementif reassures fans that there are more updates on the way, with the highly anticipated 1.0 release still in the works.
Patrons can expect early access to upcoming features, including multiplayer support, performance enhancements, and improved stereo rendering. Additionally, BetterVR is expanding its scope to incorporate Mario Kart 8, aiming to deliver a high-quality VR racing experience akin to the BotW mod.
While there is no confirmed release date for the 1.0 version of BetterVR for BotW, the mod’s current state suggests that the launch may not be far off. With the prospect of a Mario Kart 8 VR mod on the horizon, fans have much to look forward to in the near future.
