Social VR Platform VRChat Reveals Impressive User Stats and New Portal
VRChat, a popular social VR platform, recently shared some fascinating user statistics along with the introduction of a new portal to attract more users.
Gathering concrete data on VRChat user stats can be challenging, as the game is available on multiple platforms such as Steam, Quest, iOS, and Android. Third-party tools like SteamDB only offer a partial view of the user base.
However, the company occasionally releases key numbers, as seen in a recent announcement:
- 158,192 Record Concurrent Users
- 100,000 Daily Average Concurrent Users
- 250,000+ Active Communities
- Japan Growth 3.9x
The significant growth in Japan-based users, indicated by the 3.9x increase, demonstrates VRChat’s strong presence in the Japanese community.
One noteworthy achievement was the platform’s record of 158,192 concurrent users during a Japanese language concert in February, featuring a performance by Kaguya from the Netflix anime series Cosmic Princess Kaguya!
The corrected count of 158,192 concurrent users was confirmed by VRChat Community Head ‘Tupper’ in a recent post.
VRChat’s popularity in Japan has been evident for some time, with mainstream appeal on the rise. Notably, in June 2025, McDonald’s Japan launched an official VRChat world as part of a marketing campaign involving popular VTubers.
According to data from Sensor Tower, Japan leads the world in visitors to the official VRChat website and ranks second in mobile downloads with a 25% share.

As part of a broader marketing strategy, VRChat has launched a new user portal emphasizing the benefits of becoming a creator on the platform, offering a 50% revenue share. The portal also promotes a non-VR approach, welcoming users from various platforms without the need for VR equipment.
Despite VRChat’s efforts to attract more users, the social VR landscape is facing challenges. Meta recently announced changes to Horizon Worlds, focusing more on mobile development, while Rec Room announced its closure due to financial difficulties.
