Valve have confirmed the Steam Controller price and release date, though the Steam Machine is still in RAM price purgatory

Valve to Release Steam Controller Refresh Without Steam Machine or Steam Frame

Valve’s plans for a trio of hardware launches have been disrupted by ongoing RAM shortages. As a result, they have decided to release the Steam Controller refresh on its own. The release date is set for Monday, May 4th, with a price tag of £85 / $99 / €99.

Although the price may seem steep, our Steam Controller review praises it as a good gamepad. It has a strong focus on Windows systems and offers versatile functionality for both gaming and desktop use.

Launching without the new Steam Machine may impact the Controller’s success, as the two were initially intended to complement each other. Despite this, the Steam Controller has proven to be comfortable and multifunctional, potentially justifying its higher price point compared to other controllers on the market.

Valve’s decision to release the Steam Controller ahead of the Steam Machine and Steam Frame suggests that the latter two may still face delays. However, Valve assures that there is sufficient stock of the Controller for a successful launch.

Stay tuned for more insights from our conversation with Valve’s hardware team later this week. Exciting developments await for those interested in cutting-edge gaming technology!
