Exciting news for all the Civvers out there – Firaxis has finally released the much-anticipated Test of Time update for Civilization 7. This update includes the highly requested feature of being able to play as one civilization for an entire campaign, a game-changer for longtime players of the series.
This update addresses a common frustration among players, allowing any civilization to continue beyond its historical peak or Apex Age. Instead of transitioning to a new age, players can now choose to keep playing in the current age, while still having the option to switch if desired.

Civilizations that play outside of their apex age are now referred to as Time-Tested, with a focus on civics and syncretism. Time-Tested civs have their own unique civic tree, including a specially crafted civic for that civ in the Time-Tested Age, a civic based on the civ’s attributes, and a new civic for syncretism, allowing players to borrow ideas from other civilizations.
In addition to these changes, the update introduces Triumphs, which replace Legacy Paths. Triumphs offer optional challenges tied to the six core Attributes in Civ 7, with minor triumphs providing instant benefits and major triumphs requiring more focused investment for Dedications in the next Age. The update also revamps Victories, each with its own score to achieve.
This update brings numerous other changes, all detailed in the blog post linked here. It’s a substantial update that will surely enhance the Civilization 7 experience for players.
