Forefront has only been in early access for a few months, but Breachers (2023) developer Triangle Factory is set to release the game’s 1.0 update on April 23rd. This update includes a new map, new weapons, class perks, and more. Despite not being a massive content drop, Forefront is shaping up to be one of the top VR interpretations of Battlefield.
Last week, I had the opportunity to join fellow journalists, YouTubers, and Triangle Factory staff in previewing the upcoming 1.0 release. I must admit, I was completely outmatched in the three 20-minute matches I played. Check out the gameplay preview here: Forefront Gameplay Preview
Although I had some experience with Forefront before, my performance in the matches made it seem otherwise. The new map and gear provided a fresh challenge and a chance to explore the game before its official release.
If You’ve Played Before (Even If You Haven’t)
If you’re familiar with Battlefield, you’ll feel right at home in Forefront. The game offers four main classes, a variety of unlockable weapons, and numerous vehicles to pilot, from Apache helicopters to four-wheelers.
Let’s dive into the new features introduced in the 1.0 update. The standout addition is the ‘Clearwater’ map, a sprawling terrain featuring a flooded town, mountainous areas, and industrial remnants. The map offers diverse combat scenarios, from close-quarters skirmishes to long-range engagements.
Additionally, the Engineer class now has access to a pilotable drone, adding a new tactical dimension to gameplay. The Recon class receives a powerful combat bow for stealthy eliminations.
While the 1.0 update may not revolutionize the game, it does introduce quality-of-life improvements such as a new training ground and improved matchmaking. The update also includes dynamic shadows and enhanced visual effects for the PC version.
Overall, the 1.0 update enhances the gameplay experience and offers players new customization options with the introduction of four new perks for all classes.

Conclusion
Forefront successfully translates the essence of Battlefield into the VR realm, offering a unique and engaging experience for players. While the game may lack certain features like ranked matches, its immersive gunplay and tactical gameplay make it a standout VR shooter.

Despite some audio limitations, Forefront delivers a compelling VR shooting experience with its realistic mechanics and diverse gameplay elements. The 1.0 update, while not groundbreaking, adds polish and new content to an already robust game.
Whether you’re a VR enthusiast or a Battlefield fan looking for a fresh experience, Forefront offers an engaging multiplayer shooter worth exploring.
Forefront is currently available on the Quest Store, Steam, and the Pico Store at an early access price of $24. Starting April 23rd, the price will increase to $28. Stay tuned for updates on its availability on PSVR 2.
