A year ago, Tequila Works, a Spanish game development company, faced financial difficulties, leading to the cancellation of a game, staff layoffs, and ultimately insolvency. The loss of funding from Tencent contributed to this situation, prompting founders Raúl Rubio and Luz Sancho to depart from the studio. Currently, the remaining assets of Tequila Works are being sold in an open auction. This includes published games like Deadlight, as well as various projects in development or ready for production. It's a somber reflection on the studio that created the acclaimed game Rime. Among the projects listed for auction on Escrapalia is The Ancient Mariner, an open-world narrative action adventure focusing on human emotions as gameplay drivers. Another project, Dungeon Tour, offers a lighthearted concept blending elements of Overcooked and Dungeon Keeper for multiplayer fun. Additionally, Brawler Crawler, a combat game set in a chaotic urban universe, was also in development. The auction lists four unreleased video game concepts: Frozen Outpost, Mr. Bones, Hungry Cities, and Under A Logger's Moon. These projects come with detailed creative and narrative documentation. Although the fate of Tequila Works staff post-bankruptcy announcement is uncertain, some members have expressed their search for new opportunities on platforms like LinkedIn. Tributes have been shared by those who worked with Tequila Works, highlighting the positive experiences and games created during their time at the studio.
