Meta and EssilorLuxottica Tease New Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Recent FCC filings suggest that Meta and EssilorLuxottica are gearing up to launch two new Ray-Ban smart glasses in the near future. The filings, first reported by Janko Roettgers in his Lowpass newsletter, reveal that EssilorLuxottica has submitted documents for two devices believed to be the next generation of Ray-Ban smart glasses. Referred to as the 'Ray-Ban Meta Scriber' and 'Ray-Ban Meta Blazer', these devices are described as "production units" in the FCC filing, hinting at a potential imminent release. The company's second-generation smart glasses, released in 2025, included updates to its Ray-Ban and Oakley ranges, as well as the introduction of the $800 Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses featuring a heads-up display. While specifics about the new devices are scarce in the FCC filings, a mention of a charging case suggests a familiar accessory accompanying the new smart glasses. Model numbers RW7001 and RW7002 for the Blazer and Scriber models respectively indicate a fresh hardware generation. Interestingly, the devices were tested using the Wi-Fi 6 U-NII-4 band (5.9 GHz), contrasting with the company's latest smart glasses that utilize Wi-Fi 6E (6 GHz). These developments coincide with changes at Meta's Reality Labs division, where a refocus on AI and smart glasses has led to staff reductions and a shift in content priorities. Despite these shifts, the Meta-EssilorLuxottica partnership has seen significant success in the smart glasses market, with sales surpassing seven million units in 2025 alone.
