Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update finally rolls out with new AI features for these Galaxy oldies

Samsung has begun the rollout of One UI 8.5 to a wider range of Galaxy phones and tablets, introducing features that were initially introduced with the Galaxy S26 series in February 2026. The deployment has kicked off in Korea, with other regions scheduled to follow suit later, depending on the market and device model.

Which older Galaxy devices will receive One UI 8.5?

The update is set to reach the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Tab S11 series, and Galaxy Tab S10 series. For users holding onto these older flagship phones and tablets, One UI 8.5 will provide access to Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI tools without the need to upgrade to the newest hardware.

What new AI features are included in the update?

One UI 8.5 introduces several communication and productivity tools that were not present in One UI 8.0. Eligible devices will benefit from AI Call Screening, which can handle unknown callers on the user’s behalf, inquire about the purpose of the call, and display a live transcript for users to decide whether to answer. Live voicemail transcripts are another new feature that allows users to read messages in real-time as they are being recorded.

Samsung has also introduced a new productivity feature to its keyboard called Now Nudge. This feature can suggest calendar entries, useful information, or relevant actions based on the ongoing chat, helping users take action on information without switching between apps. Additionally, Bixby has been enhanced with more agentic capabilities, enabling it to perform multi-step tasks across various apps. For example, it can locate a specific photo and send it via email to a contact.

The update also introduces new AI-powered photo editing tools through the Creative Studio app and Text-to-Edit Photo Assist. Instead of manually editing photos, users can simply type in what changes they want, such as a new background or additional objects. Another feature, Object Transfer, enables users to seamlessly move people or objects from one photo to another directly within the gallery.

For personalization, the update includes AI Weather Effects, which offer dynamic lock screen wallpaper animations based on local weather conditions like rain or snow. As always, Samsung notes that availability and feature compatibility may vary depending on the region, market, and device model.
