Samsung Reportedly Working on More Advanced Smart Glasses, Possibly Including a Display

Samsung Working on Advanced Smart Glasses to Compete with Ray-Ban Meta

Samsung is reportedly in the works of developing a pair of smart glasses that are said to be more advanced than its upcoming competitors, including Ray-Ban Meta.

Android Authority has discovered evidence of a third pair of smart glasses in the source code of Samsung’s upcoming One UI 9 firmware. This new model, with the code name ‘Haean’ and model number ‘SM-O500’, joins the already known models ‘SM-O200P’ and ‘SM-O200J’, code named ‘Jinju’. The latter two are likely associated with the Android XR-based smart glasses that Samsung recently confirmed will be released sometime this year.

The upcoming smart glasses from Samsung are expected to be similar to Ray-Ban Meta, focusing on audio capabilities such as microphones, camera, and speakers, but lacking a display.

With the introduction of the SM-O500 model, it seems Samsung is already preparing ecosystem support for what could be their next-generation smart glasses.

Rumors suggest that Samsung may even be working on a display-clad version of the smart glasses, similar to the Meta Ray-Ban Display ($800) that was released in the US late last year.

While the findings in the One UI 9 source code are not definitive proof, they do hint at potential future releases. APK teardowns like this can be insightful but may not always come to fruition.

Last year, Google announced a partnership with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker to launch the first generation of Android XR-based smart glasses. Google is also exploring models with built-in displays for visual output, showcasing prototypes of both monocular and stereoscopic designs to demonstrate the adaptability of Android XR to various hardware setups.

Although there is no confirmed release date for the Android XR smart glasses, the inclusion of ecosystem tie-ins in One UI 9 (based on Android 17) suggests that more information may be revealed soon. Android 17 is slated for a June 2026 release, followed by One UI 9 a month later, potentially offering more insights into Samsung’s smart glasses plans.
