A new image has surfaced on Windows Central, offering a glimpse into a moment just before a significant merger.
The image reveals a prototype of the rumored Surface Phone, believed to be from around 2013 – the same year the iconic Nokia Lumia 1020 was released. It was reportedly set to launch the following year alongside the company’s Surface Pro 2-in-1.
The device appears to be running an early version of Windows Phone 8.1 and is powered by an unnamed Qualcomm chip. The display is a modest 720p, reflecting the time when 1080p was just starting to become a common specification.

The design of the phone aligns with Microsoft’s Surface aesthetic, similar to the Microsoft Surface Duo 2, featuring a flat-edged metallic body with a Windows logo on the back. Below the display, there are three navigation keys, with the Windows logo in the center.
The back of the phone houses a single camera.
According to reports, there are separate volume up and down buttons on the right edge, a power button on the top, and a 3.5mm headphone jack (RIP) and a micro-USB port at the bottom.
