Exciting news for fans of the Metro series as Deep Silver and 4A Games have unveiled the next installment, Metro 2039. The full reveal is set to take place during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase 2026 on Thursday.
While details about the game are scarce at the moment, one thing is certain – the reminder that the threat of nuclear war is always looming, a stark contrast to real life.
The Metro series kicked off with Metro 2033 in 2010, followed by Metro: Last Light in 2013. The most recent release, Metro Exodus, hit the shelves in 2019, expanding the game world beyond the Metro. In 2024, Metro Awakening, a VR exclusive prequel featuring a new protagonist named Serdar, delves into some bizarre and intriguing narrative involving Genghis Khan.
In a post announcing the Xbox Showcase, Microsoft’s Joe Skrebels teased, “We’ll begin the day with our annual Xbox Games Showcase, including first gameplay looks and huge news on upcoming titles from our first-party studios across the Xbox family, as well as our third-party partners around the globe. Immediately following Showcase, we’ll go even deeper on one of the games coming later this year, directly from the team behind the Gears franchise, The Coalition Studio. Gears of War: E-Day Direct will take players into the start of Emergence Day, offering new details, gameplay and insights about the hugely anticipated origin story to the Gears of War saga.”
