Grounded 2 Expands Playerbase with PlayStation 5 Early Access and Into the Abyss Update
Grounded 2 has received its largest update yet with the launch of the Into the Abyss update, introducing a new underwater world to explore in Brookhollow Park. The game has also expanded its reach by becoming available on PlayStation 5 in early access.
Players can now enjoy Grounded 2 on Xbox Series X|S, PC via Xbox and Steam, and PlayStation 5, with access through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
The Into the Abyss update brings Skunk Pond, offering new locations to explore, a fresh progression system, underwater base building, and new creatures to encounter. Additionally, players can utilize the Toe Biter Buggy for easier navigation.
Aside from the pond, other areas like The Bridge, Gnarly Bark, and Pergola have also been expanded, providing more hidden treasures and challenges to discover.
Initial impressions of Grounded 2 during its Early Access launch were positive, with the game building on its predecessor’s strengths while introducing improvements to mechanics. The game has the potential to become a standout title for Obsidian and Xbox.
Grounded 2’s journey to PlayStation 5 in early access marks a departure from the original game, which made its way to the platform two years after its full release on Xbox. The game’s success on PlayStation Store charts highlighted its appeal to a wide audience.
While Obsidian is renowned for its RPGs, Grounded and its sequel are collaborative efforts with Eidos Montreal, offering a unique co-op survival experience inspired by the film “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!”
Following recent developments at Xbox, including layoffs and changes in project focus, Obsidian has shifted its attention to a new Fallout project in partnership with Bethesda. This decision aims to cater to fans of Fallout: New Vegas, although the project’s completion may take some time.
