The Artemis II astronauts have recently added a breathtaking visual to their collection of Earth and Moon sightings: a total solar eclipse viewed from deep space. The Moon appears with sharp yet irregular edges, surrounded by twinkling stars that enhance the cosmic spectacle.
Beyond the Moon, the four-member crew of Artemis II witnessed a unique perspective of the eclipse, unlike anything seen from Earth. According to reports from CNN and Scientific American, the astronauts enjoyed an extended eclipse totality of nearly an hour, providing a rare view of the Sun’s corona peeking out from behind the Moon unobstructed by Earth’s atmosphere.
During the eclipse event, Commander Reid Wiseman expressed the awe and astonishment felt by the crew, describing the experience as “indescribable” and “surreal.” Wiseman conveyed the difficulty of finding adequate words to capture the beauty and wonder of the cosmic display unfolding before them.
