Claude just got a scam detector, and it could save you from a costly mistake

AI’s content generation capabilities are making it increasingly difficult to detect scams. Research from Malwarebytes shows that 66% of people find it challenging to distinguish between a scam and legitimate content. AI-generated scams have become so sophisticated that even tech-savvy individuals are falling victim to them.

This issue is exacerbated as more individuals rely on AI for answers to their everyday queries. People are turning to AI browsers and tools like Claude for guidance on various topics, from outfit choices to restaurant recommendations. It’s only a matter of time before individuals start seeking advice on online safety from their AI assistants.

Currently, there are limited tools available to identify suspicious or scammy AI-generated content. Malwarebytes aims to address this challenge by integrating its threat intelligence directly into Claude, allowing users to verify dubious content within their conversations.

How does it work?

By connecting Malwarebytes to Claude, users can paste any questionable link, phone number, or email address and request Claude to verify it. The verdict can be safe, malicious, suspicious, or unknown, accompanied by guidance on the next steps to take.

Users can check the following:

  • Links: Paste a URL from a message or email to check its safety before clicking.
  • Phone numbers: Verify if an unfamiliar number is associated with scams.
  • Email addresses: Determine if a sender’s domain is linked to phishing attempts.
  • WHOIS lookup: Retrieve domain registration details to assess the legitimacy of a website.

How to set it up?

Configuring Malwarebytes is similar to adding any other Claude connector. In Claude, navigate to Customize → Connectors, click on the plus button, search for Malwarebytes, and connect it. The best part is that you don’t need a Malwarebytes account to utilize this feature.
