Aqara Multi-State Sensor P100: a single-body sensor with Matter and Thread support

The Aqara Multi-State Sensor P100 is a compact smart home sensor that sets itself apart from traditional door and window sensors. Instead of the usual two-piece design, the P100 integrates a nine-axis sensor array into a single unit, using AI algorithms to interpret various physical states. This device can function as a door and window sensor, a vibration and tilt detector, and a movement monitor all in one. It supports both Zigbee and Matter over Thread, and is compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.

A unique single-body design

The most notable feature of the P100 is its single-body design, eliminating the need for a separate magnet. Traditional sensors require precise alignment of a sensor body and a magnet, but the P100 simplifies installation by incorporating a three-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, and geomagnetic sensor into one compact unit.

For door and window monitoring, the P100 uses its internal geomagnetic sensor to detect rotation angles as fixtures are opened or closed. This design allows for easy installation and flexibility in mounting locations that would be challenging for sensors with separate pieces.

However, the P100 is not suitable for sliding doors, garage doors, or pull drawers due to its reliance on pivoting or rotating motion to register an open state.

Two versatile operating modes

The P100 offers two configurable modes based on usage:

1. Door and window monitoring:

In this mode, the sensor detects the open or closed state of rotating fixtures, allowing for seamless integration into automation systems.

2. Valuables protection:

This mode focuses on monitoring movement, tilting, dropping, and vibration, making it ideal for tracking objects rather than doors or windows. It can be used for privacy-conscious monitoring tasks without the need for cameras.

The P100’s flexibility and capabilities make it suitable for various applications, including front door monitoring, cabinet tamper detection, activity monitoring, custom gesture control, and parcel box monitoring.

Advanced features and customization

The P100 includes self-learning calibration and adjustable sensitivity levels to reduce false alerts and provide control over responsiveness to movement or vibration. The Aqara Home app offers a visual event log for monitoring disturbances over time.

Connectivity options: Zigbee and Matter over Thread

The P100 supports both Zigbee and Matter over Thread protocols, with different capabilities depending on the connection method. When connected via Zigbee to an Aqara hub, the sensor unlocks all features, while Matter over Thread offers basic functionality without full access to advanced modes.

Platform compatibility

The P100 is certified for Matter and compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Aqara Home, Home Assistant, and other Matter controllers. Users may need an Aqara hub for advanced features when using Home Assistant.

Availability and pricing

The Aqara Multi-State Sensor P100 is available in dark grey and white colors. It is priced at $29.99 in the US market and is expected to be available on Amazon starting May 12, 2026. European pricing is estimated to be around PS25-PS30. The device is sold individually.

Summary

The Aqara Multi-State Sensor P100 offers advanced features and flexibility in a single-body design, making it a versatile addition to smart home setups. While there are limitations based on connectivity options, the P100 provides practical solutions for monitoring various scenarios with ease.
