Apple’s upgraded Siri, powered by Google’s Gemini AI, is facing delays in its development, with the final product potentially not ready until iOS 27 this fall. Despite Apple’s announcement of a more capable Siri in 2024, the update has yet to be released.
According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple initially planned to introduce the new capabilities in iOS 26.4 in March but is now considering spreading them out over future versions like iOS 26.5 in May and iOS 27 in September.
Gurman highlights that one feature likely to be delayed is Siri’s expanded ability to access personal data, allowing users to search for specific content within their messages, among other functions.
The report also mentions that voice-based control of in-app actions is behind schedule but should still be included in an update to iOS 26.
Apple recently released iOS 26.3 with bug fixes and security improvements, with the first signs of Gemini-powered Siri expected in iOS 26.4 beta. However, these features may now be postponed to a later release.
Apple finalized its deal with Google’s Gemini AI models in January after considering other options. The company had originally announced the enhanced Siri in 2024 but delayed its implementation to this year.
Looking ahead, Gurman suggests that Apple will further enhance Siri’s capabilities to function more like a chatbot in iOS 27.
