Animal Crossing: New Horizons gets a new item to celebrate 25 years of the series

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has surprised fans with a new patch released today to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the beloved life simulation series. The update, labeled version 3.0.2, is now available for both the Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game.

This patch introduces a special new item to New Horizons – a leaf. What’s even better is that every player will receive this item without having to complete any special tasks.

Once you’ve installed the patch, simply check your in-game mailbox to claim the leaf item. The accompanying mail includes a heartfelt message to long-time fans of the series, complete with a nostalgic Nintendo N64 stamp.

Referred to as the Leaf Statue within the game, this item lights up when placed in your virtual world.

April 14, 2011 marked the release of the original, lesser-known version of Animal Crossing in Japan. Initially launched as Animal Forest (Dobutsu no Mori) on the Nintendo N64, the game later arrived on the Nintendo GameCube in December of the same year as Dobutsu no Mori+ with additional features.

The original package design from that first release is also available for showcasing in your in-game collection. The remainder of the patch notes mainly focus on bug fixes, with the complete changelog accessible on Nintendo’s support website.
