An Amazon warehouse worker died on the job at Oregon facility

A tragic incident occurred at Amazon’s Troutdale, Oregon warehouse last week, where an employee passed away while at work, as confirmed by a company spokesperson to DailyTech.

According to a report from the Western Edge, an investigative outlet in the Pacific Northwest, the employee collapsed on the floor of the PDX9 warehouse and unfortunately passed away, while colleagues continued to work around him.

Amazon spokesperson Sam Stephenson expressed deep sadness over the loss and extended condolences to the family of the deceased employee. The company has provided support resources for the family and onsite grief counselors for PDX9 employees. Amazon also acknowledged the assistance of local authorities in handling the situation.

Reports from Amazon fulfillment center workers on a Reddit forum suggested that the warehouse was unusually hot due to recent installations that limited airflow. Some speculated that the heat could have contributed to the tragic event, given the physically demanding nature of the work. However, Amazon stated that Oregon’s OSHA deemed the incident non-work related.

The PDX9 warehouse has been known for its challenging working conditions, with previous investigations highlighting high injury rates among employees. Amazon has faced scrutiny over workplace safety at its fulfillment centers, with ongoing investigations into the company’s practices.
