Have You Played Alabaster Dawn Yet?
As a Heroic Videogames Journalist, it can be challenging to keep up with the constant influx of new games. However, sometimes it’s worth taking a step back and exploring a game that may have flown under the radar. Enter Alabaster Dawn, an action-RPG that launched in early access on May 7th and still offers a demo. After spending some time with it, I can confidently say it’s a very good game.
Developed by Radical Fish Games, known for their work on CrossCode, Alabaster Dawn brings a fresh perspective to the genre. While CrossCode embraced a top-down 16-bit style, Alabaster Dawn opts for an angled, 2.5D approach with beautifully crafted environments and stunning sprite art.
The game’s narrative is set in a world plagued by the curse of Nyx, reminiscent of Starcraft’s Zerg. Players take on the role of Juno, one of the few remaining Chosen warriors tasked with battling these otherworldly creatures. With a fluid combat system inspired by games like Devil May Cry and Kingdom Hearts, Alabaster Dawn offers a unique gameplay experience.
Aside from the engaging gameplay, Alabaster Dawn also shines in its character art and quirky script, reminiscent of the humor found in CrossCode. The game is still in early access, with the developers planning to add seven chapters and an estimated playtime of 40 hours upon completion. The current build offers 6-10 hours of gameplay, with additional features like a roguelite mode for replayability.
If you’re looking for a new adventure to sink your teeth into, Alabaster Dawn is definitely worth checking out. With its captivating world, engaging combat, and charming aesthetics, it’s a game that deserves a spot on your radar.
