Apple is gearing up to film the second-to-last season of its popular psychological sci-fi series Severance. While there are still about 20 episodes left to go, the producers have already finalized the ending.
However, fans will have to wait a bit longer before the premiere of season 3 and even more for season 4. Despite committing to the final season, Apple has not announced the start of filming. Unlike other shows that film multiple seasons consecutively, Severance will likely air its third season before moving on to the fourth.
Despite the waiting game, the creators of Lumon Industries have already mapped out the entire storyline. In an interview with Variety, star and executive producer Adam Scott revealed that he knows how the series will ultimately conclude.
“Oh, yes. I’m an executive producer on the show, so I’m involved in all of it. We talk with the writers and Dan [Erickson] all the time. I know everything about what’s going on. [As an actor] I like having as much information as possible.”

Scott expressed his excitement for the upcoming seasons, mentioning the surprises in store for viewers. He also confirmed that although Ben Stiller won’t direct season 3, he remains heavily involved in the show.
Receiving the Canal+ Icon Award at Cannes International Series Festival, Scott shared his eagerness to reunite with the cast after a two-year break following season 2. His co-stars Britt Lower and Trammel Tillman sent a heartfelt message, praising Scott’s contribution to the show.
In the interview, Scott discussed his desire to play the role of Mark in Severance and how he prepared for the character’s complexities.
“It’s an incredible role in an incredible world. It’s everything I’d always wanted to do. When I read the script, first of all, I thought: ‘I probably won’t get this job. But if I do, if I’m able to land this, it will be because I’ve been earning this over the last 30 years.”

Scott’s audition process and his dedication to mastering the character’s quirks were highlighted. He credited Stiller for helping him perfect the character’s unique mannerisms.
While avoiding spoilers, Scott hinted at a potentially open-ended finale for Severance, drawing comparisons to shows like Twin Peaks. He also praised the enigmatic endings of series like The Sopranos, emphasizing the power of leaving some questions unanswered.
“I love ‘Twin Peaks’ so much and I love that people keep discovering it over and over again. I don’t know if [‘Severance’] will live in culture and be remembered like that, but I agree – there’s a lot of power in not knowing.”

As an executive producer, Scott appreciates the element of mystery in storytelling but acknowledges that the resolution of important plot points is crucial. Show creator Dan Erickson reassured fans that all major mysteries will be resolved without a Lost-style ending.
