Following the announcement of Nintendo’s new console, the prices of Switch 2, Mario Kart World, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour have all sparked discussions.
Some fans have been spamming ‘DROP THE PRICE’ in Treehouse livestream chats, and Reggie Fils-Aimé has subtly addressed the issue of the Welcome Tour not being free. If you purchase the Switch 2 edition of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you will need to buy the DLC/expansion pass separately.
Nintendo has confirmed to IGN that “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC. That DLC is available as a separate purchase.”
Depending on your current ownership status of Breath of the Wild, the impact of this decision may vary. If you already own the game and its DLC on the OG Switch, purchasing the $10 “upgrade pack” for the Switch 2 edition will not require you to buy the DLC again.
However, for those who do not own the DLC and purchase the Switch 2 edition for $70, they will need to spend an additional $20 for the game’s expansion pass, bringing the total cost to $90.
While this decision may not be seen as egregious on its own, when combined with other recent controversies, it appears that Nintendo may be facing some backlash from a PR perspective.
