The ongoing standoff between Google, the parent company of YouTube TV, and Disney has left 10 million YouTube TV subscribers without access to Disney-owned TV networks like ABC and ESPN for nearly two weeks. This dispute arose from the failure to reach a streaming deal between the two companies.
Sports fans have been particularly affected by this situation, with media outlets like Business Insider, The New York Times, and Engadget offering guides to help viewers catch important college football games. However, little attention has been paid to the silent suffering of viewers like myself, who are unable to watch their favorite shows due to the blackout.
As a devoted fan of “Jeopardy!”, I have been left in distress by the absence of ABC on YouTube TV. The nightly routine of watching the show has been disrupted, and I find myself missing out on updates about the current champion and their tie choices.
Both YouTube TV and Disney have publicly aired their grievances, with YouTube TV accusing Disney of proposing costly terms that would ultimately raise prices for customers. On the other hand, Disney claims that YouTube TV is unwilling to pay fair rates for their channels.

In an attempt to appease subscribers, YouTube TV has offered a $20 credit for the inconvenience caused by the blackout. However, some subscribers have pointed out that a similar blackout in 2021 resulted in a $15 credit, despite YouTube TV being cheaper back then.
Disney stands to lose millions in revenue during this standoff, but could potentially benefit from their ESPN Unlimited subscription service. Unfortunately, this service does not include “Jeopardy!”, leaving fans like myself in a bind.
While considering alternatives, I find myself hesitant to switch streaming services due to sharing my account with others. The uncertainty of the situation leaves me hoping for a resolution soon.
When will this ordeal come to an end? When will I be able to resume my tradition of critiquing game show contestants and expanding my knowledge on random topics? The ball is in Disney’s court to resolve this impasse.
