Exciting News for Virtua Fighter Fans!
With the highly anticipated New Virtua Fighter Project currently in development, the talented team at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has given us a sneak peek into their work, including the return of a beloved character.
Wolf Hawkfield is making a comeback, showcasing a fresh new look that has been expertly crafted by Art Director Ryo Shibasaki.
Producer Riichiro Yamad has hinted at a deeper exploration of the characters’ backgrounds in the upcoming game. While not necessarily origin stories, players can expect to uncover the motivations behind their fighting, what transpired between previous installments, and how it all ties into their overall character development. This storytelling approach is a deliberate effort by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio to enrich the Virtua Fighter series.
Ryo Shibasaki also shed light on Hawk’s redesign, emphasizing his transformation into a cool, edgy wrestler with a hint of a “heel” persona. The details, such as the ammo belt, intricate tattoos, and weathered appearance, truly capture the essence of an aging wrestling superstar.
Previously, fans were treated to a glimpse of Akira and Sarah Bryant engaging in combat. Additionally, a pre-production video in January showcased Akira in action.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has solidified its position as a key development studio for Sega, known for their work on the immensely popular Yakuza/Like A Dragon series. Their diverse portfolio also includes recent titles like Super Monkey Ball. With their lineage tracing back to Virtua Fighter through Yakuza and Shenmue, they are well-equipped to spearhead the future of the franchise.
Furthermore, the team confirmed that Virtua Fighter 5 REVO, following a successful PC revamp, will be making its way to next-gen consoles such as PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
