We are just a few months away from Apple’s September event, where the iPhone 17 lineup will be unveiled. As expected, new specifications are starting to surface as Apple’s supply chain gears up to mass-produce the next generation of iPhones.

Reports have indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the largest flagship model this year, will be thicker and heavier. This change is believed to accommodate a larger battery. Leaker Instant Digital (also known as Setsuna Digital) has now shared on Weibo that the Max model could potentially reach a battery capacity of 5,000 mAh for the first time.

While the exact number was not provided in the Weibo post, the expectation is set at 5,000 mAh. Battery capacities usually do not land on even values, but the number could be higher than expected.

If the information is accurate, it would signify a nearly 7% increase over the battery capacity of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which was measured at 4,676 mAh in an iFixit teardown. This potential increase would be the largest since the iPhone 13 Pro Max saw an 18% jump over its predecessor in 2021.

Looking at the battery capacities of Apple’s iPhone Max models over the years, there have been fluctuations in capacity, with some models showing decreases. However, each year’s new models are typically more power-efficient, impacting overall battery performance beyond just capacity.

The advancements in efficiency, along with battery improvements, allow Apple to enhance the capabilities of each new model. Real-world tests have demonstrated significant gains in battery life for the iPhone 16 models, especially the Pro Max variant, showcasing the efficiency of Apple’s technology.

A potential 7% increase in battery size for the iPhone 17 Pro Max could further extend battery life, but the practical implications will only be known through real-world testing. While exciting, it’s essential to approach early leaks with caution and await official confirmation from Apple.
