Why Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Failed on Stage at Connect

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg faced some technical difficulties during his keynote at Connect this year, particularly with the live demos of the latest Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and the new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses.

The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) smart glasses offer similar benefits to the Oakley Meta HSTN, such as longer battery life and improved video capture. One standout feature is the integration of Meta’s large language model (LLM) and Meta AI, accessible by saying “Hey Meta” to ask questions or utilize features like Live AI.

During a demo of the Live AI feature, food influencer Jack Mancuso struggled to follow the AI’s guidance while creating a Korean-inspired steak sauce, leading to a humorous mishap. The reason behind this mishap was a simple mistake in activating the Live AI, causing a server overload.

Despite the hiccup, the launch of the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses for $799 in the US on September 30th proceeded with a minor glitch as Zuckerberg attempted a live video call. Connectivity issues are common in live product events due to the high number of devices in use, but the presentation continued without major interruptions.

Overall, while technical glitches are inevitable in live demonstrations, the advancements in Meta’s smart glasses lineup show promise for the future of wearable technology.
