Following the announcement of Nintendo’s latest console, the pricing of both the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World has caused some controversy. In addition, there is also a debate surrounding why the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is not included for free with the console.

After a period of silence, Nintendo has attempted to justify the pricing changes by mentioning terms like “variable pricing.” Regarding the Welcome Tour, they explained that the price reflects the team’s effort and dedication put into creating it.

Former Nintendo of America CEO Reggie Fils-Aimé has subtly weighed in on the discussion about the Welcome Tour. He shared specific clips of his past struggles to persuade Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto to bundle games with consoles for free.

Reggie’s examples of bundling games like Wii Sports and Wii Play with consoles had proven successful in showcasing the hardware and reaching a wider audience. This approach could have benefited Nintendo with the Welcome Tour as well.

It’s worth considering whether offering the Welcome Tour for free could have had a positive impact for Nintendo. The debate continues.
