Who is Picea Robotics, Roomba’s new owner?

When I first reviewed the Roombas, it was evident that they were a departure from the original models that iRobot had built its reputation on. These new Roombas bore little resemblance to their predecessors, resembling more the generic mid-range robot vacuums in the market. I had the opportunity to test the 505 and the 205 models, but unfortunately, I encountered significant issues with both.

In contrast, the 3i series, particularly the top-of-the-line 3i S10 Ultra, impressed me greatly. This machine boasts a unique water-recycling system that ensures its clean-water tank remains full using a dehumidifier. Additionally, its smart dirt-scanning technology, equipped with a green light, can identify stains and repeatedly scrub them, a feature reminiscent of Dyson’s latest robot vacuum.

Despite iRobot’s reassurances of business as usual post-bankruptcy, the future of Roomba under Picea’s ownership remains uncertain. What is evident, however, is the increasing dominance of Chinese-owned brands and manufacturers in the robot vacuum market.
