Amazon Echo Spot

Blink Outdoor 4

The 1080p Blink Outdoor 4 security camera offers support for motion detection, night vision, and two-way audio. There’s the option of local recording with the bundled Sync Module 2 (the newer Sync Module XR is out, but we haven’t tested it yet), and unlike the third-gen model, it supports person detection and has a wider field of view.

  • Blink’s Mini 2 is an affordable way to start your smart home security system, available for just $19.99 ($20 off) at Amazon and Best Buy. The 1080p camera impressed us with its video quality, built-in spotlight, and durability (it works outdoors, too). You can store video clips locally if you don’t want to pay for a Blink Subscription Plan ($3 per month, $30 per year) by picking up a Blink Sync Module 2 and flash drive. Subscribing enables people detection and 60 days of cloud storage for clips.
  • Smart lightbulbs let you change the mood of your room using your smartphone or voice (via a smart speaker), and you can pick up a two-pack of Lifx Color A19 bulbs for $29.42 ($10.30 off) at Amazon. The bulbs can be used with all three major smart home platforms (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit) without requiring a hub. The 1080p camera can turn a full 360 degrees and tilt up and down. A physical privacy cover lets you disable the camera when you’re home.
