Residents living near a Waymo parking lot in San Francisco are still dealing with overnight honking issues, despite the company’s attempts to address the problem. Initially thought to be caused by cars beeping in the lot, Waymo later revealed that the honking was triggered by a safety feature when a vehicle detected another reversing towards it.
Following Waymo’s patch, some cars missed the parking lot and ended up in a nearby cul de sac, causing a backup and more honking. The company disabled access to the cul de sac and even organized an ice cream social to appease residents, resulting in a brief period of peace.
However, the honking problem resurfaced when multiple robotaxis lined up to enter the lot, leading to a chain reaction of honking as they reversed to make space. Resident Sophia Tung has reached out to Waymo about this new issue and plans to discuss it further with the company’s management.
Waymo has yet to respond to inquiries about the ongoing honking debacle. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
