It’s been almost a year since Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, the vehicular combat racing game, entered early access. Developer Caged Element Inc. has announced that the game will officially launch on May 22nd, with Wired Productions taking over publishing duties from Plaion. The game will no longer be free-to-play, and will be available for purchase at a discounted price of $16 (full price yet to be revealed).
Players who participated in the early access phase will receive the full release for free. However, microtransactions will be removed from the game. Existing players with in-game currency, known as Teef, can still use it for the next 12 months. New players joining with the 1.0 launch won’t have access to the in-game store where Teef can be spent. Additionally, DLC packs will be available at launch, but details on whether they can be purchased with Teef have not been confirmed.
Moving away from free-to-play will bring benefits such as player-hosted matches with custom settings and the ability to host private games. A new free-roam mode will also allow players to explore any map and create custom races.
The game will be temporarily unavailable from May 20th to 22nd, so players should not worry if they experience downtime during this period.
