Want to link from Google’s app store to your app? That’ll be $2–4 per install

Google has updated its support pages with a new deadline and requirements for developers regarding alternative billing and external content links. The company will charge fees for every app and game installed outside the Google Play Store ecosystem. In addition, Google will take a percentage of in-app purchases and auto-renewing subscriptions. Developers who want to offer their billing solutions will receive a small discount compared to Google’s fees.

Judge James Donato will need to decide how to proceed with Google’s proposed settlement, which includes fees on alternative billing and external app downloads. Google claims that these fees reflect the value provided by Android and Play. However, Epic has expressed opposition to these fees and plans to challenge them if they take effect.

The situation is still fluid as the legal battle between Epic and Google continues. Developers should stay updated on the latest changes through Google’s support pages.
