The upcoming sequel to the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie appears to have had its name leaked early, thanks to a mistake in a press release by NBCUniversal. The film is reportedly titled Super Mario World, not to be confused with the popular 90s SNES game.
The sequel was first announced in March last year, following the success of the original movie. The trend of successful game adaptations like the upcoming Minecraft Movie has only reinforced the decision to continue with the Mario franchise.
NBCUniversal accidentally included Super Mario World in a list of upcoming films to be released on its Peacock streaming service, but the reference to Mario was later removed. This could indicate that the title reveal was a mistake and may not be the final name of the sequel.
However, considering the post-credits scene of the first movie teasing the introduction of Yoshi, Super Mario World could be a fitting title, especially given the character’s debut in the SNES game of the same name.
