In the past, keyboards I purchased had macro keys that I rarely used for gaming or other functions. However, the recent trend towards smaller keyboards without a number pad did not appeal to me as I write a lot and prefer having a number pad.
Recently, working in IT support has increased my need for macro keys. My requirements are simple, mainly mapping buttons to my 3CX softphone and having dedicated keys for different screenshot functions.
I initially looked at Elgato Stream Decks, but the price was steep for my needs. I explored various macro keyboards on Amazon and ended up purchasing the Vaydeer JP1011 due to its positive reviews and reasonable price.
Unfortunately, the Vaydeer JP1011 did not meet my expectations due to some security concerns, making it unsuitable for use in a corporate environment.
The Vaydeer JP1011 Programmable Macro Mechanical Keyboard is designed for versatility and functionality. It offers six customizable layers, four NKRO keys, user-friendly interface, floating window, OTA updates, and settings backup. The keyboard is suitable for both professional tasks and gaming, providing a practical solution for improving workflow and simplifying repetitive tasks.
The keyboard’s unboxing and design are compact, professional, and well-built with aluminum and plastic materials. The mechanical switches deliver tactile feedback and consistent performance. The neutral appearance allows it to blend into various work environments seamlessly.
However, the software security concerns and reliance on proprietary software for full functionality limit its usability in professional or security-conscious environments. The software may transmit data without user consent, raising privacy and security issues. The keyboard’s performance may also be inconsistent, particularly with complex macros or rapid sequences.
In conclusion, while the Vaydeer JP1011 offers an affordable option for a macro keyboard with mechanical keys, its software concerns and reliability issues make it unsuitable for professional use. Home users looking for a budget-friendly option may find it suitable, but there are better alternatives available for business or IT professionals.
