Valve Removes Game from Steam Due to Malware Concerns
Valve has taken action by removing a video game from its online store, Steam, after reports surfaced that a free demo for the game was installing malware on users’ computers.
The game in question, Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution, boasted features such as realistic first-person shooter mechanics, dynamic storytelling, and high-stakes missions, according to an archived version of its Steam page.
Concerns about the free demo potentially containing malware first arose earlier this week when Reddit users who had downloaded and analyzed it raised alarms.
TheGamer was the first to report on the game’s removal from Steam.
This incident comes on the heels of Valve having to address a similar issue last month with a game called PirateFi, which was found to be a front for malware aimed at stealing players’ passwords.
Valve has yet to provide a comment on the situation.
