You may have already seen the price of the Nintendo Switch 2, even though it was announced in a rather unconventional way after yesterday’s Direct event, rather than during it.
Following the announcement, the first post-Switch 2 Direct Treehouse livestream is facing a tough audience, with the chat flooded with demands for Nintendo to “drop the price.” This demand likely refers to both the console itself, priced at $449.99/£395.99/€469.99 for the standard version, and Mario Kart World, which is priced at $79.99/£74.99 if purchased separately. The fact that the Welcome Tour hardware demo is not free may also be contributing to the frustration.
The reaction to today’s Treehouse stream, featuring games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Donkey Kong Bananza, has been overshadowed by the constant calls for Ninty to “drop the price” as shown in the screenshot below.
Despite occasional interruptions from trolls suggesting raising prices and viewers trying to discuss the content of the stream, the chat has predominantly been filled with complaints about pricing since the Treehouse livestream started.
This sustained outcry is even surpassing the SKONG frenzy after the appearance of Hollow Knight: Silksong in yesterday’s Direct. Will consumers follow through with the “vote with your wallet” approach if Nintendo does not adjust its pricing? Only time will tell. It’s much harder to resist the fear of missing out on new Nintendo games than it is to participate in chat spamming.
Although historical trends suggest that Nintendo tends to stick to its own plans, there’s always a possibility of change, especially when consumers are directly appealing for it. Do you think Nintendo should lower its Switch 2 prices? Share your thoughts below!
