Ubisoft CEO Teases New Ghost Recon Game in Response to Stop Killing Games Campaign
During a recent shareholder Q&A session, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot addressed concerns raised by the Stop Killing Games campaign, revealing that a new Ghost Recon game is currently in development.
The Stop Killing Games campaign aims to prevent publishers from making online games unplayable after ending official support, a response to Ubisoft’s decision to sunset their online racer, The Crew. The campaign’s petition to the EU has garnered over 1.4 million signatures and gained support from EU politicians and industry bodies.
Guillemot defended Ubisoft’s stance, stating that players are notified in advance of potential game discontinuations and highlighted efforts to transition players to newer versions of games. He emphasized that while support for games cannot last indefinitely, the industry is working to minimize the impact on players.
Addressing concerns raised by Stop Killing Games, Guillemot and Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet hinted at the development of a new Ghost Recon game, citing investments from Tencent for the future development of major brand names. An Ubisoft spokesperson confirmed the news, stating that more details will be shared at the appropriate time.
It is important to note that Stop Killing Games is not advocating for eternal online games but rather for companies to implement end-of-life plans to ensure games can still be played without ongoing support.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, players can expect new releases and updates to enhance their gaming experience. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Ghost Recon game and other projects from Ubisoft.
