Chinese game developers Eclipse Glow Games have unveiled Tides Of Annihilation, an exciting fantasy hack-and-slash game set in a modern yet Arthurian version of London. Players will take on the role of Gwendolyn, a fierce warrior who must defeat Avalon’s demi-gods by using an unconventional method of throwing the Knights of The Round Table at them.
What caught my attention about this game is the unique Chinese interpretation of London, featuring landmarks like a tipped-over Millennium Wheel and iconic red phone booths. As someone with a fascination for different cultural perspectives, I am intrigued to explore this plague-ridden version of London through the eyes of international artists. However, I do have some suggestions for Eclipse Glow, such as making the River Thames appear more realistic and adding a touch of authenticity by including more sex shop flyers in the phone booths.
The announcement trailer showcases epic boss battles where enemies ominously speak of “doomed fates” before engaging in intense combat sequences that resemble a martial breakdance performance. With over 30 bosses in the game, including unique characters like a muscular individual with floating dreadlocks and a powerful woman reminiscent of Gilgamesh’s Gate Of Babylon ability from Fate/Stay Night, players can expect a thrilling gaming experience. Gwendolyn is equipped with a range of combat abilities, from combos and juggles to invisibility dodges and the ability to summon spectral knights for destructive attacks.
Comparisons have been drawn to popular games like Devil May Cry, Stellar Blade, and Nier Automata, with elements of Final Fantasy 16 and God Of War 3 also evident in the gameplay mechanics. The developers, supported by Tencent and comprised of industry veterans from Sega and Ubisoft, estimate that completing the game will take players at least 30 hours. However, one aspect that may need improvement is Gwendolyn’s voice acting, which lacks the emotional depth seen in performances by seasoned actors like Cate Blanchett.
