Exciting news from Devolver Digital and All Possible Futures as they have officially unveiled the release date for The Plucky Squire. This captivating adventure is set to launch on September 17th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. What’s even better is that the game will be available on day one through PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.
The Plucky Squire follows the journey of Joy and his companions as they strive to save the lands from the malevolent Humgrump in an action-packed storybook adventure. However, just when Humgrump’s defeat seems certain, he unleashes a powerful magical spell that thrusts Jot into the 3D world outside the confines of the bookish realm.
Jot must now navigate through various worlds, battling enemies in the 3D environment and transitioning into 2D spaces that resemble pages of a book or other unique landscapes. Along the way, he will acquire new abilities like a jetpack and engage in combat with a diverse array of foes, from boxing badgers to ranged adversaries targeted with a bow and arrow.
Fans of Devolver Digital may notice similarities in art style to The Swords of Ditto in the 2D segments, and this connection is no coincidence. The game is the brainchild of Bidds, formerly of One Bit Beyond, who now collaborates with former Pokémon designer James Turner at All Possible Futures.
Having had the opportunity to experience the game at Gamescom last year, Dom remarked, “The Plucky Squire draws inspiration from The Legend of Zelda, Mario, and Pixar, yet it forges its own unique path. Based on our experience at Gamescom 2023, this game is poised to become a chart-topper.”
