Sony Adds PlayStation Plus Game Streaming Support to PlayStation Portal

Sony has finally announced that the PlayStation Portal will now support PlayStation Plus game streaming, addressing a major missing feature on the remote play device.

With the latest system software update, PS Plus game streaming is now available for PS Plus Premium members on the PS Portal. This feature allows users to stream a selection of PS5 games directly from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.

To access this feature, users need to opt in by following these steps:

  1. Open the “Quick Menu” and go to “Settings” on your PS Portal.
  2. Select the “Cloud Streaming (Beta)” button.
  3. Turn on the Cloud Streaming (Beta) toggle (which is off by default).

The key features of the cloud gaming beta include:

  • Streaming select PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog
  • Streaming up to 1080p/60fps
  • DualSense wireless controller features
  • PlayStation Plus Cloud storage for game progress

While labeled as a beta, this feature has some limitations compared to regular remote play, such as only being able to play PS5 games and not being able to access certain PS Portal features.

The system update also addresses the loud volume issue on the PS Portal and allows users to adjust settings for their PlayStation Link device from the PS Portal Settings menu.

Despite the improvements, the PS Portal still lacks support for generic Bluetooth headphones, limiting users to Sony’s PlayStation Link headphones or wired headsets.

Sony’s decision to add PS Plus game streaming to the PS Portal has been long-awaited and is a welcome addition for users. The performance of this feature remains to be seen, especially considering the varying streaming experience from a PS5 console to the Portal.
