Exciting Announcements from Nintendo Direct

During today’s Switch 2 Reveal Nintendo Direct, Nintendo made several exciting announcements that had fans buzzing. However, the most highly anticipated reveals were the release date and pricing of the new console.

While these announcements confirm what many had already suspected, they still generated a lot of excitement among fans and industry experts.

The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5 and will come in a bundle with a digital copy of Mario Kart World. The standard version is priced at $449.99, £395.99, €469.99, while the MKW bundle will cost $499.99, £429.99, €509.99.

Pre-orders will open on Tuesday, April 8 in the UK, and April 9 in the US.

The standard version will feature 256GB of internal storage with improved read and write speeds compared to the original Switch.

The console maintains its handheld form factor but with a larger 7.9-inch screen that supports 1080p at up to 120fps and HDR technology.

The Dock supports HDR at up to 4K resolution. The Joy-Con controllers have been upgraded and now attach to the console magnetically. Additionally, the console features two USB-C ports.

There’s also a camera (sold separately) that you can use in games and with GameChat.

One of the standout features is GameChat, a cross-game voice chat function with a noise-cancelling microphone built into the console.

While some Switch game cartridges are compatible with the new system, faster extended storage in the form of MicroSD Express cards will be required.

Most existing Switch games will work on the new console, with some titles receiving updates to take advantage of the improved hardware. These upgraded games will be labeled as the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
