The Mosquito Gang pits four blood-sucking insect players against a human who just wants to do the dishes

Every year, my kitchen is invaded by fruit flies and mosquitoes, attracted by the enticing scent of uncovered pasta sauce and the lingering smell of burnt toast. Despite my efforts to remove them peacefully by constructing elaborate traps from vinegar bottles or attempting slow-motion kung fu moves with a jug, they continue to plague me.

This constant battle with the winged pests has caused me to drift apart from my friends, but it has also prepared me for playing The Mosquito Gang, a unique multiplayer game where one human player must complete household tasks while four mosquito players try to feed on their blood.

The concept of “extraction” in The Mosquito Gang is truly captivating. As a mosquito player, your goal is to land on the human player without being noticed and extract their blood. This extracted essence can then be used at a blood bank to unlock new abilities and enhancements. While the blood bank mechanic may not accurately reflect real mosquito feeding habits, it adds an interesting strategic element to the game.

Although the specific abilities are not fully revealed, one screenshot shows a mosquito driving a toy car, showcasing the game’s imaginative gameplay. Mosquito players also have side objectives like disabling fumigators and playing music, adding depth to their role in the game.

On the other hand, the human player must complete various chores, ranging from mundane tasks like taking out the trash to more complex activities like operating a DNA scanner. By earning cash for completing tasks, the human player can purchase tools like bug swatters to defend against the mosquito players. While there doesn’t seem to be a pacifist mode, the idea of trapping a mosquito in a jar and performing dance moves next to it is quite amusing.

The asymmetrical gameplay of Big vs Little in The Mosquito Gang offers a unique multiplayer experience, even if it may not be as intense as other games like Evolve or Titanfall. Perhaps playing this game will provide me with insights on how to effectively deal with my annual kitchen infestation. Despite suggestions to do the dishes more frequently, I see that as a drastic measure and prefer to rely on unconventional methods. The Mosquito Gang is set to be released later this year, and I look forward to exploring its quirky gameplay. Learn more on Steam.
