The LCD Steam Deck’s days are coming to an end, as Valve wind down production of the OG model

It seems that the original LCD model of the Steam Deck is reaching the end of its era, as Valve shifts its focus to the newer OLED line of handheld gaming devices. According to a notice on the Steam Deck store page, the LCD 256GB model is no longer in production and will not be available once sold out. If you’ve been considering getting one, now might be the time to make a decision before they’re gone for good.

The LCD model of the Steam Deck was launched back in February 2022, and has had a good run for almost four years. Valve introduced the OLED model about two years later, following a similar trend seen with Nintendo’s Switch upgrades. It’s likely that Valve is discontinuing the LCD model due to lower demand compared to the newer OLED version.

While the focus may now be on the OLED line, Valve is also working on a new Steam Machine. However, it seems that a new version of the Steam Deck may take some time to be released. In the meantime, the LCD model may still be a viable option for those who prefer a more affordable and functional handheld gaming device.

It’s always interesting to see how tech products evolve and change over time, especially in the fast-paced world of gaming. Whether you’re a fan of the original LCD model or looking forward to the latest OLED upgrade, the Steam Deck continues to be a popular choice for gamers everywhere.
