The good news is Switch Pre-orders have gone live at US retailers, the bad news is they've almost immediately sold out

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 were launched in the United States last night, and unsurprisingly, the console quickly sold out as eager customers rushed to various retailers to secure their own. Some were successful in placing their orders, guaranteeing themselves a future filled with Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. However, many others were left disappointed without a Switch in hand.

This surge in pre-order attempts led to technical difficulties for several retailers, with reports of Switch 2 units getting stuck in customers’ checkout carts, making them unable to complete their purchase. Problems with long queue times on Walmart’s website, only to find the console sold out once reaching the checkout, and Best Buy opening pre-orders late added to the chaotic night of online shopping.

Even Geoff Keighly, the founder and host of Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards, faced challenges during the pre-order frenzy. He shared his own experience on Twitter, saying: “System was in my cart, then it wasn’t, then it was, wouldn’t let me pay, etc.” If someone like Mr. Video Games himself struggled to secure a pre-order, it’s a tough situation for the average consumer. It’s a competitive world out there.

There has been a great deal of excitement surrounding the Switch 2 ever since its reveal showcase provided a glimpse of the console. People have been eagerly anticipating its release, with positive impressions from early testers adding to the hype. Pre-orders for US customers were delayed due to the impact of US tariffs and economic instability, leaving Americans watching from afar as Canadian and European gamers snagged their orders.
