But what do we already know about the game?
Ghost of Yōtei does not continue Jin Sakai’s story directly, but instead takes a leap forward in time by a couple of centuries to a new setting. The game is situated in the Ezo region (modern-day Hokkaido) near Mount Yôtei in the year 1603, incorporating a Western influence into its scenery and imagery showcased in the trailers.
This installment introduces a new protagonist, Atsu, whose narrative revolves around seeking vengeance. After her family is murdered by a group of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six, Atsu survives being left for dead. Over the next sixteen years, she hones her combat, survival, and tracking skills. Now, she embarks on a quest to exact revenge on The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.
Reflecting on our original Ghost of Tsushima review, Aran noted, “Ghost of Tsushima is a visual masterpiece that captures a cinematic essence through its graphics, immersive world, and soundtrack. While Jin serves as a decent protagonist, his journey to save Tsushima can sometimes be overshadowed by the supporting characters and intricate side quests. The game also suffers from some repetitive missions and a clunky user interface, resulting in style occasionally overshadowing substance.”
Ghost of Yōtei is scheduled to be released on October 20th for the PS5.
