11 bit studios has revealed that The Alters, a survival strategy game filled with clones, is set to launch on June 13th. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one. Along with this announcement, a new trailer has been released, shedding light on the various threats that players will encounter on the hazardous planet.
In The Alters, players will face dangers both visible and invisible outside their ship, spread across different biomes. These threats range from floating rocks to situations that can instantly disintegrate the player’s suit, as well as time and space distortions. The game becomes even more perilous at night due to escalating radiation levels.
As Jan, a stranded space builder on an alien planet, players must navigate the unique challenges of survival and finding a way back home using a ring-shaped ship filled with habitable shipping container-like structures. To achieve this, players must create ‘Alters’, essentially clones of themselves, each with distinct skills, traits, and personalities. This mechanic introduces elements of psychological horror and mystery, as players are faced with binary decisions that prompt them to explore deeper and darker paths. Despite sharing the same biological origin, each Alter has its own desires and motivations. Failing to meet their needs can lead to internal conflict among the Alters, intensifying the struggle for survival.
