During tonight’s Cybercab event, Tesla unveiled its new Robovan vehicle alongside a group of humanoid Optimus robots. These robots were showcased in a video performing everyday tasks such as bringing in packages and watering plants.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk humorously stated, “The Optimus will walk amongst you, serving drinks and interacting with people up close.”
Musk highlighted the versatility of the Optimus robot, mentioning its ability to walk dogs, babysit children, mow lawns, serve drinks, and more. He estimated the long-term cost of the robot to be between $20,000 and $30,000.
Musk boldly claimed that the Optimus robot would be a revolutionary product with unprecedented impact. Following the presentation, livestream footage showed people engaging with the robots, although their activities were limited to waving and basic interactions.
Despite some limitations, the Optimus robots showcased potential by handing out gift bags and engaging in playful activities with guests. Musk’s vision for the robot includes significant economic improvements and a future without poverty.
The Tesla bot, initially introduced as a playful concept in 2021, has evolved into a functional prototype in 2022. Musk envisions the Optimus robot as a transformative force for civilization, capable of mass production and driving substantial economic growth.
