Apple TV is kicking off the new year with a bang by releasing the long-awaited season 3 of the international thriller Tehran as part of its 2026 programming lineup. The Israeli-Iranian espionage series was one of the first of its kind to premiere on Apple's streaming service. After being announced in June 2020, the first season debuted in September of the same year, just before Apple TV's first anniversary. The show continued with an eight-episode second season in the summer of 2022. Despite being renewed for a third season in February 2023 and already filmed that summer, the series mysteriously disappeared from Apple TV. Too Close to Reality? Speculations arose that the show's portrayal of a Mossad intelligence agent infiltrating Iran might be insensitive following geopolitical tensions sparked by the October 7, 2023 attacks. Apple remained silent on the matter, but Israeli broadcaster Kan confirmed the delay was due to the outbreak of war. Although season 3 was ready for release, Apple held it back, fearing the storyline would be irrelevant amidst ongoing regional conflicts. Eventually, Kan received approval to premiere season 3 in December 2024, but Apple delayed it further until December 2025, announcing a fourth season as well.
