Sonos is making a comeback with a renewed focus on the system that established its reputation in whole-home audio. To support this initiative, the company is introducing its first new consumer speakers since 2024: the Sonos Play and Era 100 SL, alongside the recently announced Amp Multi for custom installations. The $299 Play is a versatile speaker designed for both home and on-the-go use. It features a removable utility loop for easy carrying or hanging, weighs less than three pounds, and boasts a sleek cylindrical oval shape. With dimensions of approximately 7.5 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide, and 3 inches deep, the Play offers convenient physical controls for managing tracks, volume, voice assistant functions, and speaker grouping. Internally, the Play is equipped with force-canceling passive radiators for robust bass response, a midwoofer, and two angled tweeters driven by three class-H amplifiers. When connected to Wi-Fi and enabled in the Sonos app, the Play supports automatic Trueplay tuning to adapt to its surroundings, whether at home or on the move. Users can further customize the sound profile by adjusting treble, bass, and volume settings within the app. The Play is IP67 rated for water and dust resistance, provides up to 24 hours of playback time, and doubles as a power bank for charging devices via USB-C. Additionally, it offers Bluetooth connectivity for grouping with up to three additional Play or Move 2 speakers while out and about. At home, the Play can be conveniently placed on its charging base to ensure the battery remains charged. Should the need arise, users can easily replace the battery with the optional kit available for $69. On the other hand, the Era 100 SL serves as a simplified version of the Era 100, delivering the same audio performance without a built-in microphone. Priced at $189, this speaker appeals to both existing Sonos users looking to expand their setup affordably and newcomers seeking an entry point into the Sonos ecosystem. Both the Play and Era 100 SL are currently available for pre-order, with general availability set to begin on March 31st. Stay tuned for an enhanced audio experience with Sonos' latest offerings.
