GM has confirmed that it will no longer support CarPlay, but Apple fans can still rejoice as GM is introducing native support for Apple Music and Apple Car Key in its vehicles. This move comes as GM prepares to limit deeper integration with Apple's infotainment system. Starting in 2025, Chevy and Cadillac vehicles will have Apple Music integrated into their infotainment systems. Current vehicles will receive this feature through an over-the-air software update via GM's OnStar Basics package. Eligible models include the Cadillac CT5, Escalade IQ, and Vistiq, as well as the Chevy Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV, among others. Users can easily access Apple Music on their dashboard after the software update, and they can sign in with their existing subscription to enjoy their favorite tunes via OnStar. This move follows Porsche's integration of Apple Music in the Taycan back in 2019. In addition to Apple Music, GM is also planning to support digital car keys in Apple Wallet. While the specific timeline and vehicle models have not been disclosed yet, this reaffirms GM's commitment to its previous promises. This feature is expected to debut with the 2026 Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. These initiatives by GM may be aimed at appeasing customers who are disappointed by the decision to phase out CarPlay support. A recent survey showed that a significant percentage of GM owners who use CarPlay would consider switching brands if the integration is dropped. Meanwhile, Apple users are more likely to value CarPlay support compared to Android users.
