Volvo is gearing up to launch its latest innovation, the ES90 electric vehicle, on 5 March. This new car will be equipped with dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin hardware, marking a significant step forward in safety and performance through data, software, and artificial intelligence (AI). The Superset tech stack, which Volvo has been developing, is at the core of this groundbreaking launch. This tech stack consists of a unified set of hardware and software modules that will underpin all future electric cars from Volvo. It represents a major shift in how Volvo can utilize software to enhance safety, technology, and overall performance throughout the car's lifecycle. The Nvidia Drive AGX Orin hardware will provide an impressive 508 trillion operations per second for AI-based features, sensors, and battery management. This hardware will enable Volvo engineers to expand the deep learning model and neural network used in the car, ultimately improving customer experience and safety levels. The ES90 will be equipped with advanced sensors, including lidar, radars, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and a driver understanding system to enhance safety measures such as collision avoidance. Volvo chief engineering and technology officer Anders Bell emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and creating software-defined cars that continuously improve over time. The Superset tech stack will be the foundation for all upcoming Volvo electric cars, ensuring that performance upgrades can be simultaneously applied to the entire lineup.
